不生病≠健康!吃、動、睡平衡才是健康的真諦

“究竟什麼是健康, 我一直都沒病, 這算健康嗎?”類似的問題很多, 到底如何定義健康?“有氧運動之父”肯尼斯•庫珀博士給出了如下回答。

宇宙間最偉大的一個原則就是平衡。

One of the great principles of the universe is the principle of balance.

假如地球離太陽哪怕只是近幾英里, 那地球就是火海一片。

If the earth were a few miles closer to the sun, it would be aninferno.

假如地球離太陽哪怕只是遠幾英里, 那地球就是荒涼的冰天雪地。

If it were a few miles farther away, it would be a desolate, frigiddesert.

但是在她現在的位置, 和太陽保持著完美的距離, 在她的懷抱裡萬物生機, 充滿活力。

But in its present location, balanced at an ideal distance from thesun, our planet is in a present position to sustain an exciting proliferationof life forms.

人類的身體(包括健康)原本也是宇宙裡的又一個完美平衡。

The human body is just another part of the universe that is meant tobe in perfect balance.

我們的身體就是這樣一個構造, 我們需要不多不少恰到好處的運動。

We have been constructed in such a way that we need just so much exercise,no more and no less.

我們的身體需要不多不少的各種食物。

We need just so much food of certain types.

同樣我們需要的是適量的睡眠和從日常生活的壓力中得到適度的釋放。

And we need just the right amount of sleep and relief from thetensions and stresses of daily life.

如果一個人走向極端,無論是太少還是太多的運動、食物或是休息,那麼他整個生理和心理系統就失去了平衡。當失去平衡的時候,我們就失去身心健康。

If a person goes too far in either direction – too little or toomuch exercise, food, or rest – then his or her entire physical andpsychological system gets out of kilter.And where there is a lack of balance,there is also a lack of personal welling.

同理,從正面的角度講,當平衡得以實現的時候,我們就有了身心健康。當我們達到完美平衡的境界時,我們就有了完美的身心健康!

By the same token, on the positive side, where there is balance,there is a sense of well-being.And where there is perfect balance, there iswhat I call total well-being!
