用英語學交通英語口語：taxi drop charge 起步價的口語訓練

我們所有的英語學習和英語能力都應該首先來自我們在英語語言環境中的體驗，

也就是在英語語言環境中去學英語。只是我們多數人一方面說學口語需要和強調語言環境，抱怨沒有語言環境，一方面又十分樂意於直接脫離英語語言環境而從中文環境下“學習”英語，比如說，直接用中文問你：計程車起步價用英語怎麼說？然後直接用中文告訴你它的英語是什麼。表面上這樣學習的“效果”很好，

印象深刻，其實，這就是典型的脫離語言環境學英語，和我們聲稱的“想要語言環境學英語”是個悖論。

我們還是到“語言環境”中去學習掌握“計程車起步價”的英語表達和做口語訓練吧。

1) URead，在“語言環境”中體驗英語：

TAXI FARES: HOW MUCH DOES A RIDE COST?

A meter inside the taxi calculates/adds the cost of your ride and displays/shows the fare. The cost of a taxi ride in Seattle is regulated, and each taxi charges the same fares.

All meters print a receipt showing the charges for your trip.

Taxi fare is a combination of three separate charges:

1. drop charge

2. distance charge,and

3. time charge

You don't simultaneously/at the same time pay both distance and time charges; you pay one or the other. This table summarizes/shows Seattle taxi fares:

Drop charge: Applied as soon as you enter the taxi and accept a ride$2.60

Distance charge: Applied once the taxi is travelling to your destination$2.70 per mile

($0.30 per 1/9 mile)

Time charge: Applied when the taxi stops or travels at slow speeds $0.50 per minute

during the trip (for example, at red lights or in heavy stop-and-go

traffic)

2) UTalk 自己跟自己說英語：

嚴格講，上面的英語“語言環境”不是用來給你做“英譯漢翻譯閱讀理解”的，而是用來給你做“用英語學英語，用英語理解英語”，至少是給你“半英半中”式的“哦，

原來XXX用英語是這麼說的。 I got it.”

1. 讀到TAXI FARES: HOW MUCH DOES A RIDE COST時，“半英半中說英語”：

When we takre a taxi ride(你可能只會說take a taxi),我們是需要“付車費”的，原來“車費/車資”叫taxi fare，也叫taxi rate,taxi price,taxi charges.英語就叫：

We must pay our taxi fare/taxi rate/taxi price/taxi charges.

2. 還是讀到TAXI FARES: HOW MUCH DOES A RIDE COST時，說英語：

哦，原來“做計程車”，可以說take a (taxi) ride，原來我只會說take a taxi.呢。

3. 讀到A meter inside the taxi calculates/adds the cost of your ride時，說英語：

原來a taxi上的“米表”叫a meter.我們這麼說：We will pay by the meter.

4. 讀到All meters print a receipt showing the charges for your trip時，說英語：

原來英語的“收據”用英語說是：a receipt.那什麼是a receipt呢？英語表達是：

A receipt is(首先是) a proof(是個憑證。幹什麼用的？) that you have paid your money forsomething.

這樣說英語不就是receipt嗎？

5. 讀到Taxi fare is a combination of three separate charges:

1. drop charge

2. distance charge,and

3. time charge時，說英語：

原來“起步價”英語叫drop charge，也叫flag drop charge/壓表價，flag drop charge,flag drop charge.

其實，“起步價”就算在美國，不同地區叫法還不同。體驗下面“語言環境”：

•The initial charge is $2.50.

哦，原來，在美國紐約，“起步價”是the initial chare，不叫(flag) drop charge.

再“體驗英語”：

Toronta taxi drop fee or starting base fare is now $3.25 fight your tickets

原來到了加拿大多倫多，“起步價”又叫tacxi drop fee或starting base fare了！

5. 讀到Taxi fare is a combination of three separate charges:

1. drop charge

2. distance charge,and

3. time charge時，說英語：

原來a taxi票價由三部分組成，英語叫drop charge/起步價，

distance charge/車程價和time charge/時間價或等候價。I got it.

6. 讀到Drop charge: Applied as soon as you enter the taxi and accept a ride$2.60時，說英語：

什麼叫“起步價”啊？原來是：The charge you must pay AS SOON AS you enter/step into the taxi and accept the ride(多漂亮的英語，能背下來嗎？)

你發覺沒有，雖然我們算是“在英語語言環境”下學英語，可是你滿口都是“中文表達”，學習的“結果”就是：除了你能用中文學到/記住幾個taxi 起步價之類的英語單詞外，你的英語口語其實根本得不到多少訓練。

這多少也解釋了某些現象：為什麼有的中國人在美國長期生活，

到頭來卻還是不會說英語。

為什麼？

就因為他們跟四川人一樣：行遍天下不改川音，到哪跟誰都是四川話！
