二 before單獨使用， 泛指以前， 在.....之前， 可用于現在完成時或一般過去時。 如：
They have to vacate their offices before Wednesday.
他們必須在星期三以前將辦公室騰出來。
I have seen him before.
我以前曾經見到過他。
No conclusion should be drawn before all the facts are buttoned down.
所有事實弄清以前， 不應該下任何結論。
You must belt up before you start to drive.
你必須在開始駕駛前系好座位安全帶。
You should nail his truck before he drives up the mountains.
在他把車開進山裡之前， 你得設法把他的卡車攔截住。
三 當before還可以與一段時間連用時， 組成“時間段+ before”， 這時表示的含義是在以前向更過去的以前追溯， 即指過去的過去， 因此常用于過去完成時。 如：
She said she had finished her term paper two hours before. （"finished"的動作發生在”said“之前的兩個小時， 表過去的過去）
她說她兩個小時之前就已經完成學年論文了。
He said he had worked in Seoul four years before.
他說他4年之前就已經在首爾工作了。
