Fictional Story:
The Hi Nu Gundam Variable Fighter System is one of dozens of concepts that used the psycho frame system as its base. But it stood out from the other concepts because of its ambitious attempt to apply it to an already complex transformable system. During its development, its engineers imagined it to be piloted by Amuro Ray to replace his RGZ-91 Refined Gundam Zeta.
After a multitude of failed attempts, Anaheim Electronics eventually created one successful prototype though it still needed various adjustments before it could be deployed in a battlefield. But a series of bureaucratic bickering within Anaheim Electronics related to the Zeta project eventually led to the end of the Hi Nu Gundam Variable Fighter System. Directors of the Zeta project argued it to be a redundant program as the Zeta project was creating a steady release of superior weaponry. This was true. But also true was that the VFS ended largely due to greed and fear. Fear that the VFS would rival the Zeta program. Greed that a rival transformable unit would mean less funding and a loss of potential revenues.
The loss of funding and support for the Hi Nu Gundam VFS ended any hope of making the unit combat ready. If the VFS program was allowed to continue, it would have been armed with various experimental weaponry such as a beam machine gun and fin funnels. More importantly, it would have been the first transformable psycho frame unit in the Federation's arsenal.
