威廉·莎士比亞（1564年4月23日－1616年4月23日）
英國文學史上最傑出的戲劇家， 歐洲文藝復興時期最重要、最偉大的作家。
16世紀末到17世紀初的20多年期間莎士比亞在倫敦開始了成功的職業生涯，
他的早期劇本主要是喜劇和歷史劇， 在16世紀末期達到了深度和藝術性的高峰。
後來他主要創作悲劇， 常常描寫犧牲與復仇， 包括《奧賽羅》、《哈姆雷特》、《李爾王》和《馬克白》， 被認為屬於英語最佳範例。
在他人生最後階段， 他開始創作悲喜劇， 又稱為傳奇劇。
莎士比亞流傳下來的作品包括37部戲劇、154首十四行詩、兩首長敘事詩。
