當地時間4月13日晚間， 美國總統特朗普宣佈與英國、法國聯合採取軍事行動空襲敘利亞。
特朗普還在4月14日和15日兩天分別在社交媒體Twitter上發推， 為美軍突襲敘利亞行動辨解：
昨夜發動的突襲行動很完美。 感謝法國和英國的睿智及其軍事力量。 結果完美。 使命完成！
對敘利亞的襲擊行動很完美， 非常精准， 而那些假新聞媒體唯一能詬病的是我使用了“使命完成！”的字眼。 我知道這些假新聞媒體會揪住這個不放，
從特朗普的字裡行間， 很清晰地感受到了作為一個超級大國總統的優越感。
但是， 回到在2013年， 同樣是美軍突襲敘利亞的行動， 特朗普卻曾在推特上多次發文， 一再“喊話”當時的美國領導人奧巴馬不要攻打敘利亞， 並稱他為“foolish leader”。 他還在推特中表示， 對於襲擊行動， 美國總統也需要先獲得國會的授權， 並稱這樣做不僅沒有任何好處且代價甚巨， 還不如投入經濟。
