The traditional Chinese lunar calendardivides the year into 24 solar terms. Winter begins, the 19th solar term of theyear, begins this year on Nov. 7 and ends on Nov. 21.

關於立冬的詞彙：
說到“冷”， 有可能我們頭一個想到的詞是cold。 其實除了cold， 還有一個非常好的詞可以生動形象地表達“極度寒冷”， 那就是freeze， 我們一起來學習吧。
freeze最原始的含義是“因低溫而凍結”
【例】If the temperature drops below 0°C, water freezes.
如果氣溫降到零度以下， 水就會結冰。
freeze的引申義就是“嚴寒”， 它有兩種形式——freezing和frozen。
1、freezing 極度寒冷
freezing也可以說成freezing cold。 freezing的英語解釋是extremely cold， 可以用來形容人或人的身體部位， 也可以用來形容其他事物。 It’s freezing是固定用法， 用來指天氣或當時所處環境的寒冷。
【例】Shut the window I'm freezing!
關上窗戶--我冷極了！
【例】After walking through the snow, my feet were freezing.

2、frozen 凍僵了
frozen也可以說成frozen stiff， 專門用來形容人或人的身體部位。 也就是說， frozen的用法比freezing要窄一點， freezing不僅可以用來形容人或人的身體部位， 而且可以用來形容其他事物。
【例】I'm frozen - could you close the window?
我太冷了， 你能關上窗戶嗎？
【例】I got frozen stiff waiting at the bus stop.
在公車站等車， 我都凍僵了。

3、freeze to death 凍死

【例】Two men froze to death/were frozen to death on the mountain.
