英國詩人雪萊的詩句浪漫純粹， 富有哲理。
其中《西風頌》是其代表作之一。
全詩共五節， 始終圍繞作為革命力量象徵的西風來加以詠唱。

第三節
是你， 你將藍色的地中海喚醒
而它曾經昏睡了一整個夏天，
被澄澈水流的迴旋催眠入夢，
就在巴亞海灣的一個浮石島邊，
它夢見了古老的宮殿和樓閣
在水天輝映的波影裡抖顫，
而且都生滿青苔、開滿花朵，

第一詩節寫西風的威力和它的作用， 點出破壞者和護持者， 這是貫串全詩的兩個主題。
第二詩節用雲、雨、冰雹、閃電來襯托描寫西風的威力；
第三詩節寫西風作用於波浪；
第四詩節寫詩人因西風而發生的感慨， 詩人向西風說但願自己也像枯葉被風帶走，
在最後一詩節裡， 詩人請求西風幫助他掃去暮氣， 把他的詩句傳播到四方， 喚醒沉睡的大地。
最末兩句“如果冬天來了， 春天還會遠嗎？”預言革命春天即將來臨， 給生活在黑夜及困境中的人們帶來鼓舞和希望。
